The official Men’s waiting period runs over Easter, so the surfing world watches the holiday moon and readies for pumping surf...
The Field
The Rip Curl Pro will feature the world’s top 45 ASP surfers plus two Rip Curl Wildcard competitors and one local Victorian Wildcard decided by the Victoria Place To Be Trials.
Bells Beach usually favours natural-foot surfers and when the surf is good needs power, knowledge and timing to tame it. The last goofy-footer to win the Rip Curl Pro was Aussie legend Mark Occhilupo in 1998, so it’s been a long time between drinks.
The honor roll is the who's who of pro surfing, with recent winners including Joel Parkinson, Kelly Slater, Taj Burrow and Andy Irons.
Local Victorian surfer Adam Robertson created history in 2008 when he surfed and won his way from the trials to the final against Joel Parkinson. Robertson lost the final, but his runner-up finish was the best ever result for a Victorian surfer at the Rip Curl Pro.
