Costa Mesa, CA: The Rip Curl Waikiki store rallied a group of store employees to raise money and awareness for the Life Foundation during the 18th Annual Honolulu AIDS Walk. The Life Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to stopping the spread of HIV and to assist people who are living with HIV and AIDS. The walk took place on Sunday, April 19th in Kapiolani Park in the heart of Waikiki.
“It’s incredibly important to have the support of our community partners in a cause that significantly affects countless lives locally and globally,” said Life Foundation Events Manager Kandice Johns. “Especially since Rip Curl was a sponsor for the event, it was great to have their team come out in strong numbers and show their spirit to represent their company in a positive way by giving back to the community. It is especially encouraging to know that youth within our surfing community are caring and compassionate about such an important cause.”
“I wanted to help show that Rip Curl isn't just a company that cares solely about the surf industry, but also has the drive to help better our community and the people in it,” explained store manager Travis Martin, who initiated Rip Curl’s involvement. “ A lot of people wonder how a walk can help a disease or situation like it and its not always about the money but more about the information and knowledge you come out with, and Rip Curl was a key ingredient in spreading the word!”
The Rip Curl team consisted of 10 walkers, raising $680 for the cause - Martin led the charge with $370 raised on his behalf - and Rip Curl also donated giveaway items for the event.
Great job to store managers Travis Martin and Kerry Joubert, along with the rest of Team Rip Curl for doing your part to help the local community!
