This past week Rip Curl hit the road to visit some core retailers and show the world just how good our wetsuits really are. All of the biggest west coast Rip Curl supporters were on hand and were welcomed with fun surf for the athletes to put on a great show in the lineup.
Tom Curren and his kids, Frank and Pat, along with Alex Smith, Sean Taylor, Nick Skawinski, Colin Moran, and many more turned out for the tour. Those that stopped by the demo got to surf with the pros and throw on a new Rip Curl E3. The conditions during the morning demos were slow, but playful and with some motivated surfers the Cali Road trip dream was kept alive, tapping into many of the coast’s hidden gems.
The tour kicked off in Surf City, Huntington Beach where the crew was welcomed with peak sets flooding the shoreline and left many calling it the best day of the year in the famed city. Heading south to Ponto the following day, there was a big drop in the swell but with rippable sets, no one was complaining.
Bolting from San Diego to Santa Barbara in one afternoon is daunting, but throw in a stop at one of Ventura’s best beaches and it’s on. After a night in SB, the crew trekked up to Pismo for fun in the sun. The boys from One Way, Panchos, Wavelengths, and CCS all showed up and hit the surf.
Santa Cruz marked the next stop and despite limited swell at Pleasure Point, the boys still scored some epic rides and were at least toasty in their new E3 wetties. With San Fran on the radar it would be essential to stop off at a little nook along the way to score some seldom-seen conditions only hidden gems can produce.
