Pancho Sullivan Grom Comp 2012 Wrap Up
After being forced to postpone the event to the due to some of the heaviest flooding seen in Hanalei in over 30 years (46 inches in just over 24 hours) which closed 3 bridges and caused numerous mud slides along Kuhio highway, the 2nd annual Pancho Sullivan Grom Comp ran on Saturday the 17th of March. The event was a huge success as we were blessed with absolutely perfect waves and beautiful weather. The day kicked off with a typical Hawaiian trade shower blessing in the early morning while members of the North Shore community all pitched in to help get the tent set up and the contest site ready to go. The aloha is alive and well in Hanalei.
We saw a total of 80 competitors turn out for this years event which forced us to limit entrants to only their actual age division. The kids were absolutely chomping at the bit to get in the water. We had a perfect head high right and left sandbar on offer for the competitors. The level of surfing was incredible and the judges and spectators were continually blown away at the some of the turns the kids were throwing down.
After amazing performances from heat one all the way through to the finals, here's how it went down in the finals of each division.
