Taylor Clark Wins Surfing America USA Championships
The Rip Curl team had a very successful event down at Lower Trestles during the much-anticipated US Surfing Championships hosted by Surfing America. Rip Curl's stand out junior surfer, Taylor Clark, 17, Encinitas, CA was the in form surfer of the entire event as he dominated heat after heat with precision rail work and progressive above the lip aerials. Taylor won the Governors Cup trophy for the elite division Under 18 victory.
When asked what contributed to Taylor's victory, he responded, "I think surfing Lowers as much as I do helped out so much, and having everyone down there helping me before my heats. This was my last year too, so I was going to try my hardest to win and when I made the final, I knew I just had to go for it!"
Also making a loud statement were Rip Curl riders Luke Gordon and Wyatt McHale. 13-year-old Gordon, hailing from quiet South Carolina, surfed his way to the Under 14's final and finished an impressive 3rd place. While Oahu's McHale, surfed beyond his 12-year-old age with a come from behind 2nd place showing.
Rip Curl is enthused to have such talented young surfers performing on surfing's biggest stage. The US Championships is the most prestigious amateur event of the year.
