Steph Gilmore / 2007-2008 ASP Women's World Champion

Happy Gilmore X2 Championship Site: ripcurl.com/happygilmore

Stephanie Gilmore is the most talked about athlete in women's surfing. Still a teenager and a recent High School graduate, Steph has already done more than most of people can dream...

After learning to stand on a bodyboard at the age of 10, Steph fell in love with the freedom of surfing. She rates "everyone that surfs" as an inspiration and loves travelling her country and the world on Rip Curl Search trips.

Steph is the girl everyone believes will push women's surfing beyond the boundaries and no matter whether you've seen her in videos or watched her at Snapper one hundred times, her advanced style impresses with something new every time she's in the water.

Steph had an unbelievable year in 2005, headlined by her world famous win at Snapper Rocks (Australia) in the opening WCT of the ASP Season, then backed that up with a stellar season in 2006. She easily qualified for the 2007 World Tour and won the Layne Beachley Classic World Tour event as a Wildcard in Sydney just for good measure. That second World Tour win makes Steph the only surfer ever to win two top tier events as a non-ASP World Tour surfer.

With World Tour glory in her sights for 2007, Steph is the girl many see will dominate surfing for the next generation. Layne Beachley’s seven world titles are a mile away, but Steph is the girl to achieve the same milestone.

Steph is a proud part of the Rip Curl pro surf team and a fantastic ambassador for surfing, sport and women around the world.
