Rip Curl Planet Day 2014

Each year, Rip Curl gathers the entire company together for a paid workday to observe "Rip Curl Planet Day" – a day to give back to the community and protect the natural playground that we share. On June 20th, the 100-person crew met at San Onofre Beach Park to conquer the stretch of beach from Churches to Dog Patch.

After the beaches were scoured for every cigarette butt and Styrofoam pebble, the crew congregated at Dog Patch for our first annual Planet Day Surf Relay Challenge! The waves were waist-high and consistent, the perfect platform for our 5-person teams to put the new Rip Curl SearchGPS watches to the test. Each team was armed with a SearchGPS watch, a long board and a short board, and charged with catching the longest and fastest wave of the day. The SearchGPS results afforded Steve Morissette, Peter Osuna, Michael Kominsky, Aaron Johnson, and Jacob Wood the win. The win for Best Costume went to "Brian Ireland and the Nuclear Boobs", who surfed decked out in mullet wigs, rocker gear, and blow up instruments!

After multiple sessions in the water, the crew hit the BBQ pit and beach volleyball, and tired and crispy, wrapped up another successful Rip Curl Planet/International Surf Day!
