Rip Curl Challenge La Nord 11th Edition
This year, we are celebrating the 11th edition of this SURF Competition created and organized by the Landes Surf Committee and hosted by the Hossegor Surf Club. It will take place between November 1, 2023, and April 1, 2024, on the now-famous wave of Hossegor, coinciding with the town's 100th anniversary! This year's event will be dedicated to the memory of our colleague Fred BISCAYAR, who passed away this year. He was the former director of the New Aquitaine League and helped us make La Nord happen during the year of COVID.
The competition will be broadcast LIVE on FACEBOOK, YouTube, and the final will be broadcast LIVE on TVPI, along with the prize-giving ceremony. This will allow everyone to follow the event even from a distance.
This year, we will have invited surfers such as Jérémy FLORES, Éric REBIÈRE, as well as previous winners: Vincent DUVIGNAC (3 times), Paul DUVIGNAU (2 times), Jeff LARTIGUE, Paul César DISTINGUIN, Pierre ROLLET, Didier PITER, and Justin BECRET.
21 other surfers from Landes and the top 10 surfers from Aquitaine will join them to face these magnificent waves of "La Nord," right in front of the central beach of Hossegor.
The criteria for this competition are, first and foremost, beautiful wave conditions with a minimum size of 3 to 4 meters, with scoring taking into account the size of the waves ridden and the surfer's commitment. Interference is penalized, and a board equal to or greater than 7.4 feet long is mandatory to participate, as well as a Competition FFS license. Depending on the elements and conditions, the format can evolve from 10 to 12 surfers divided into 4 or 5 heats lasting 45 minutes to 1 hour, followed by a final with the top 12, which will last 1 hour.

We will also host a Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) final with the top 10 French surfers either before or after the surf category. In short, it's a 5 to 6-hour spectacle guaranteed for this rare and highly sought-after event that brings together the best surfers of big waves from Aquitaine, both amateur and professional. Five trophies will be awarded on the same evening: to the winner, the surfer who rides the biggest wave, the best young surfer, the best female surfer, and also the best "wipe-out," rewarding maximum commitment. All participants will receive prizes from the event's partners during the prize-giving dinner organized by L'Étiquette on-site or in the center of Hossegor.
