Costa Mesa, CA (June 2, 2016): The Rip Curl GromSerach presented by Banzai Bowls is back for the summer, kicking off the 2016 surf series this weekend, June 4th and 5th, in Huntington Beach, CA. A packed line up of 168 frothing groms will be battling it out at the South Side of HB Pier for the coveted regional title.
Similar to previous years, there will be fierce competition in the water this weekend as the highly competitive groms focus on qualifying for a coveted spot in the RCGS National Final, which is being held for the first time at Seaside Reef, Cardiff, CA on October 29th, 2016. Top contenders featured this weekend include Eithan Osborne, Noah Beschen, Eli Hanneman, Nick Marshall, and Wyatt McHale.
Surfline forecasts fun waves for this weekend with 3-4 ft South West swell mixed with a small NW windswell. Size is expected to decline throughout the weekend, but plenty of contestable surf will be on offer. With air temperatures in the high 70’s and sunny skies, we are looking at favorable conditions for the start of the GromSearch Series.
The four finalists from each division; 16 & under boys, 16 & under girls, 14 & under boys, and 12 & under boys, will all be invited to compete in the National Final. The 16 & under boys and girls National Champions will win an all-expense paid trip to compete in the RCGS International Final - location to be determined, as we will once again be going on the Search to a new location each year.
This past May the RCGS International Final was held in pumping surf at Ala Moana Bowls, Oahu as two North American competitors took the prestigious titles; Nolan Rapoza (USA), and Brisa Hennessy (HI).
