Rip Curl’s junior team featuring a star-studded cast of wave shredders ages 11-17 made their way from the across USA’s East and West Coasts as well as Hawaii to take part in the 2018 Rip Curl Team Summit.
The day began with a fun work out featuring a ginastica workout at Rip Curl’s official gym partner, Extreme Athletics. Ginastica is a combination of yoga, gymnastic stretches and balance techniques, which warmed the team up for their surf session in Newport Beach.
The one-hour tag team challenge surf contest encouraged teamwork while keeping the competitive spirits high. When the final horn sounded, Crosby Colapinto, Leah Thompson, Manny Valentin and Koby Hughes were named the winning team. As they celebrated with over-sized nerds boxes, the rest of the team washed off with a high performance expression session to see who could nail the best images.
Next the team headed to the Rip Curl USA Headquarters for a catered lunch courtesy of Wahoo’s Fish Tacos. Following lunch was a presentation by Rip Curl’s product teams showcasing future styles, including a boardshort naming session that allowed the team to name the next MIRAGE boardshort styles.
Stab Magazine’s social media expert, Morgan Williamson, then gave a talk on the do’s and don’ts of social media and the best practices to increase their Instagram followings! With a few tips from an expert the team was focused on growing their engagement.
To finish off the day, Rip Curl hosted the first ever Tarp Surfing Classic! Taking place at one of the newest tarp surf breaks, the Rip Curl USA Headquarters, a nice wind swell offered amazing waves as each athlete brought their A-game, hoping to become event champion. However, it was Luke Wyler’s determination, skill, and creativity that landed him the high scores needed to take the championship title, Luke walked away with a massive box of Sour Patch Kids and Fortnite V-Bucks, while Diego Ferri took runner-up.
The event brought laughs and smiles for all, as the day wrapped up with an ice cream build-your-own sundae buffet. Puerto Rican, Manny Valentin was awarded the MVP of the day for his great overall performance.
