GromSearch Series Europe Stop #4 in Lacanau, July 1st to 3rd
In challenging conditions characterized by 6ft waves and a blend of rain, wind, and sunshine, the young surfers from France exhibited exceptional skills and determination as they competed for victory at the GromSearch French stop held in Lacanau over the weekend.
The competition proved to be worthwhile as the U16 winners were rewarded with a six-month usage of an AMI Citroën, while the surfer with the highest heat score total received a 500€ check. Additionally, all first-place finishers in each category secured a spot in the Euro finals. A wide array of exciting prizes were up for grabs, including Oakley sunglasses, a Citroën sound amplifier, FCS fins, Pura Vida bracelets, and a RIP CURL watch.
In the under 16 categories, the talented Inigo Madina emerged victorious, showcasing excellent wave selection skills. Meanwhile, Clemence Schorsch once again demonstrated her unbeatable combination of skills and strategic prowess. In the under 14 division, Hugo Flori secured the highest heat score total with an impressive 18.07 points, closely followed by Marley, the U12 boys' winner, with a total score of 17 points. Tya Zebrowski claimed the U14 title among the girls, effortlessly displaying a powerful performance, while Cheyenne Patino Ubeda triumphed in the U12 category.
On Saturday, a large group of groms participated in the Save La Mermaid beach clean challenge, collecting 1200 cigarette butts from this clean-looking beach. The collected plastic was repurposed for artistic creations and awareness games. For those who did not get enough surfing, the collectif SkateHer provided skateboarding initiation sessions with their entire team, showcasing their iconic decorated skateboards and helmets. Competitors and public alike had the opportunity to test drive the Citroën AMI and participate in the Oakley PlayStation tournament, both of which received resounding success.
Rip Curl extends a huge thanks to the event sponsors : Citroën, Oakley, FCS, and Pura Vida, for their valuable support.
Rip Curl was also very grateful to welcome the non-profits organizations Save la Mermaid and SkateHer for the first time to share their passion and positive messages.
Rip Curl also wishes to express its appreciation to our esteemed partners on the ground, Surfing France, the Lacanau Surfclub, and the Lacanau water safety team, for their collaboration and assistance.
The European GromSearch Series is now anticipating the European finals, scheduled to take place in Anglet on the 18th and 19th of August.
