Transports of Delight 2 - Mathea Olin’s Latest Search Adventure

Sometimes when you visit somewhere new, you barely get to scratch the surface. The location. The hidden corners. The different moods in different weather.

That’s exactly why, a year after her first voyage, Canadian surfer Mathea Olin returned to the wild coastline of Transports of Delight. This time, it wasn’t just about retracing steps—it was about going deeper. Chasing new waves. Exploring uncharted stretches. And, doing it all with fresh skills and a lot more confidence at the helm.

What they found were empty lineups and pristine peaks with not a soul around. Fresh salmon caught and cooked over an open fire. Camping under stars on remote island shores, switching between longboards and shortboards depending on what the chilly Atlantic Ocean served up.

“Finding waves where you can surf and you’re the only one out, like, those are moments for me when I know where I’m meant to be,” Mathea says. “Those are the moments I’m going to continue to find and explore our coastline and push my limits on a sailboat and just overall learn more about the ocean and who I want to be.”

That strong connection to both the waves and the wilderness was the heartbeat of the trip. “For me a huge part of it is just being out there in the ocean. Out in nature,” Mathea explains. “It’s definitely a cherry on top when you actually get swell on a sailing trip.”

The magic wasn’t just in the surf. It was in the scenery too. “Being a surfer, you’re always so enamoured by the coastline and what it has to offer,” she says.
“Every corner we rounded there was something new to look at…. little moments like that want me to keep going that little bit further, not knowing what you’re going to find.”
A big change this adventure was the extra confidence Olin packed with her essentials. Last trip was a crash course in sailing with friend and mentor Satch Robertson. This time, Mathea came prepared. “Last year Satch taught me so much about sailing and I really enjoyed myself. I wanted to do it again this year and start the adventure where we ended it last year. Getting to do it again, I already felt way more comfortable. That allowed me to learn so much more about the sailing and the technical aspect of that.”

That’s the beauty of doing things for a second time. You know more, have a sense for extra goals and can truly let go of any anxieties. There’s something incredibly empowering about having the skills to chart your own course too. To take your adventure into your own hands. The freedom to explore wherever the wind takes you—and the confidence to make the journey your own.

Watch Olin develop those skills to Search, in Transports of Delight 2.
