Watch In Awe As Supertubos Makes And Breaks World Titles

The opening days at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal offered up some of the best surf we’ve seen on the WSL webcast this year. Pumping, perfectly offshore, six-to-eight foot barrels pulsed through the lineup at Supertubos as rounds one, two, and three were run and done. The world’s best had a canvas they could stretch out on, and they didn’t let it go to waste.

But not only has it been an event filled with high-octane rides, it’s been an event filled with moments that have made, and broken, 2018 World Title runs.

At the start of this event there were eight remaining World Title contenders: John John Florence, Jordy Smith, Gabriel Medina, Owen Wright, Matt Wilkinson, Julian Wilson, Adriano de Souza and Filipe Toledo. Now, halfway through the event, there is only one scenario remaining:

If John John Florence falls short of making the Final in Portugal, OR if Gabriel Medina wins the Rip Curl Pro, the World Title race will head to Pipeline.

If John Florence makes the final in Portugal and Gabriel Medina DOESN’T win the event, the Title is John’s for a second year running in Portugal.

Only time will tell… tune in to the World Surf League for all the action.

Surfline, the official forecaster for the Rip Curl Pro Portugal, are calling for a fresh run of head-overhead WNW swell filling in through Tuesday and continuing through to mid-week.

Stay tuned!
