21 Years Of Rip Curl Planet Day

Last month saw Rip Curl’s 21st annual Planet Day take place along the Surf Coast, working with local environmental groups located near our Torquay Head Office to clean up, protect and revegetate beach areas.

Keeping our feet in the sand and our heart in the surf keeps us focused on our Vision to be regarded in all that we do as the Ultimate Surfing Company.

“It’s been 21 years that Rip Curl has been running our Planet Day and that just goes to show how connected it is to our company and our values… It’s all about acting locally and thinking globally about how we can contribute to the community we live in and the environment that we live in.” Brooke Farris, Chief Executive Officer

Over the 21-year duration of Planet Day, Rip Curl averages 170 staff numbers participating each year. This equates to over 3,500 days work committed to the program, or around 17,500 hours.

“My favourite part is getting out of the office and connecting with crew that I don’t usually work close to” says Shasta O’Loughlin, Environmental Social Governance Manager.

In our home town of Torquay, the Rip Curl crew are responsible for successfully reintroducing more than 100,000 plants indigenous to the Surf Coast and across the region.

“The biggest highlight is that out of those 100,000 trees we have an 80% long-term survival rate.” – reports Brooke.

We are committed to expanding planet day to include all crew including retail staff, athletes, customers, and suppliers, in the coming years, so watch this space!
