Frequently Asked Questions

What thickness wetsuit do I need?

Water temperature is your guide. Above 72°F, a 2mm springsuit works. At 62–72°F, go with a 3/2mm fullsuit. From 52–62°F, step up to a 4/3mm. Below 52°F, you need 5/4mm or heavier, and it's worth adding boots to the kit. Check our Wetsuit Thickness Guide for details and fit tips.

What is the difference between a fullsuit and a springsuit?

A fullsuit is a full-body suit that covers the arms and legs, and is built for cold-water use. A springsuit has shorter sleeves and/or shorter legs, offering more freedom and comfort in warmer conditions. Fullsuits run from 3/2mm to 6/5mm. Springsuits sit at 2mm and below.

What's the difference between chest zip, back zip, and zip-free?

Back zip is the easiest to get on and off, making it a common choice for first-time wetsuit buyers. Chest zip seals better against flushing and gives you more freedom through the back. Zip-free offers the most flex and the most watertight fit, but is trickier to get into. The men's wetsuit guide covers all three side by side if you're not sure which to choose.
