Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles presented by Rip Curl returns to the sacred site of Bells Beach / Djarrak for its 10th year.
One of the most anticipated events on the Victorian surfing calendar, the Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles presented by Rip Curl, will return later this week to Bells Beach / Djarrak on Wadawurrung Country to celebrate its 10th year.
The event brings together first nations surfers from across the country including Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia. “We’re excited to welcome the leading First Nations surfers to Djarrak for the Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles,” Surf Coast Shire Mayor Liz Pattison said. The event will host divisions including Open Men and Women, Junior Men and Women (U18), Masters (O35), Elders (O50) and Longboard.
“Surfing Victoria are excited to welcome back the Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles to Bells Beach / Djarrak” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson. “The event is an incredible showcase of first nations surfers and a true gathering of surfers from around the country.”
Past champions who have returned this year include Finn Hill (Central Coast, NSW), Jaz McCorquodale (Bateau Bay, NSW), Russel Molony (Central Coast, NSW), Summer Simon (Gold Coast, QLD) along with former Pipe Masters champion Robbie Page (Kempsey, NSW).
Hill, who has claimed the past two titles, will be returning to the event in the hope to be the first Open Mens surfer to claim three titles in a row. “I’m super excited to get back down to Bells and hopefully score some really fun waves,” said Hill. “Its always great to surf some heats with all the crew down there and hopefully defend the title!”
The Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles will be held on May 26-28 at Bells Beach / Djarrak on Wadawurrung Country, kicking off on the 26th at 8:00am.
