Two Icons of Junior Pathways Combine: Introducing the Rip Curl GromSearch Oz Cup.
Rip Curl and Surfing New South Wales are stoked to unveil the Rip Curl GromSearch Oz Cup, a landmark union of two prestigious legacy events for juniors: The Oz Grom Cup and the Rip Curl GromSearch Series.
Celebrating its 11th year, the prestigious five-day event will kick off from the 20th – 24th of April, and will cater to over 200 talented grommets from across the country.
Surfing NSW CEO, Lucas Townsend said, “The Oz Grom Cup has been a stalwart of junior pathways for years, a credit to the grassroots efforts of Coffs Harbour Boardriders to develop and grow such an important event.”
“As the event has grown in participation, to gain the firepower of the Rip Curl brand and their decades of support for junior pathways through the GromSearch Series ensure it has a massive future. With 6,500 points that go towards the National Rolling Seeding and Australian Junior Series Rankings, this makes it one of the most important events in the calendar, and we’re stoked to have Rip Curl along to elevate the experience for these young competitors.”
The Rip Curl GromSearch Series began as a single day event in 1999 and has developed into a world-wide series providing groms with the opportunity to surf with friends and test their skills against the best junior talent in their country. The impressive list of previous GromSearch competitors and Surfing NSW athletes currently competing on the elite WSL World Championship Tour – including Molly Picklum, Tyler Wright, Sally Fitzgibbons, Morgan Ciblic and Ryan Calinan – is testament to the quality of the series.
Rip Curl Event and Partnerships manager Mark Flanagan commented “We’re stoked to bring the Rip Curl GromSearch back to the Coffs coast. We look forward to working with Surfing NSW and continue the Oz Cup legacy built by Coffs boardriders and Coopers Surf. It’s great to offer local surfers the opportunity to compete against the Nation’s best.”
The Rip Curl GromSearch Oz Cup is stop-one of a three event series to determine the GromSearch National Champions. More details on the series to follow.
