Rip Curl’s Hottest 100, Top 10

As Australia Day long weekend quickly approaches, the infamous Triple J Hottest 100 is ramping up – votes have been cast, tallies are starting to come through, and the hottest song of the year is about to be unveiled. No matter the date, it’s always a day to remember.

This year Rip Curl has a special investment in the Hottest 100, with one of the possible songs playing as the track to one of our biggest campaigns this year – Ain’t No Wave Pool, featuring Mick Fanning and the secret wave they now call “The Snake”. The song behind the surfing? Rattlesnake, of course, by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

So in order to get behind our friends over at King Giz, we decided to get together and cast our votes for the Top 10 of the Hottest 100 in 2017.

Listen in, and tell us what you think! Did you vote for any of these songs?... Leave your comments below

1. Gang of Youths – Let Me Down Easy
Dave Le’aupepe’s voice is so unique, especially in this song, and we just can’t get enough. His words are honest and frank, and we think a lot of people can relate to what he’s talking about here.

2. DZ Deathrays – Total Meltdown
How good would this track be to some fun, fast surfing? Just picture Gabriel Medina throwing airs like he just don’t care, as this tune cranks through your speakers.

3. Methyl Ethel – Ubu
To have a Hot 100 list and to NOT have Methyl Ethel in it would be a crime.

4. The Killers – The Man
Not sure about you, but if we’re amping up for a cold-water session, this is definitely the go-to song.

5. Ruby Fields – P Plates
For those of us in the later years of life, this song takes us back – and for those of us who are still on P Plates, it reminds us why it’s awesome to be where we are in life...

6. YUNGBLUD – I Love You, Will You Marry Me
We think that YUNGLUD is on the brink of being massive in the music world, and we think this could be the song that takes ‘em to the big leagues. Totally unique.

7.Wolf Alice – Beautifully Unconventional
Could this song sum up surfing? We’re not sure that’s possible, but we think that Beautifully Unconventional is pretty close...

8. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – Rattlesnake
Mick Fanning, The Snake, and Ain’t No Wave Pool. Enough said.

9. Kingswood – Creepin
Again. How good would this track be to an epic video part!?

10. Dan Sultan – Kingdom
Last, but definitely not least. Kingdom is one of those tracks that you can listen to in any mood, anywhere.
