Mick to Run Rip Curl’s Diamond Search Sticker for the Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic
All eyes will be on the upcoming Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic, kicking off April 16, after 3X World Champion Mick Fanning was announced on Friday as the official event wildcard. Mick has put the top 32 on notice.
Celebrating Mick’s return to the CT and as a throwback to the 90’s, Mick will be running the classic diamond Search Rip Curl logo on his board. The logo adorned the boards of many of surfing’s greatest through the 90s, including Tom Curren, Damien ‘Dooma’ Hardman, Gary Green and Chris ‘Davo’ Davidson.
Interestingly, this will be the first time MF surfs with this sticker on his board after Rip Curl updated the Search logo a mere week before Mick officially came on board with the Ultimate Surfing Company back in 2011.
“There was one sticker in my whole time I didn’t get to use and now that I’m going to do the Narrabeen event, I asked Rip Curl if I could run the sticker that I never had,”Mick said.
Whether Mick will use it to channel a dash of Tom Curren’s smooth style or simply rely on his own speed and power remains to be seen but you can check out Mick in the latest episode of Getting Heated, available here.
