Can a Surf Watch Improve Your Surfing?

We strapped a SearchGPS 2 watch around CT surfer, Conner Coffin, to see just how he utilizes SearchGPS 2 x Surfline Sessions technology.

During a sleepy Rincon season, we gave Conner a call inquiring about a voyage to California’s other famed cobblestone lineup, Lowers. The forecast was nothing special, an early season South but the lineup was relatively empty with calm winds, so we indulge. Conner is sent down the trail with a photog and SearchGPS 2 watch in hand, while Surfline cameras record the rest.

The reason we asked Conner to drive 3 hours for waist-high Lowers? Good question. We'd seen the numbers put up by you all and our Crew, but it was time to see the numbers generated by one of surfing's most elite. While it was truly mediocre, it doesn’t take much for Conner to get a rail wet and get the watch moving. He surfs for over 3 hours, showcasing CA power surfing at its finest, while providing us with plenty of session data.

Now, can a surf watch really help your session? Conner sure thinks so. After the low tide cobblestone scramble, Conner hits 'End Surf' on his SearchGPS 2 watch to get his stats directly on screen. We then head back up the trail to review his entire session on his phone. Every wave, sent directly to his phone - easy as that. No editing, no searching, just your clips already trimmed up and ready to share.

"I love being able to see stats right after my session. You can see just how much you worked during a surf, then watch your clips after. It's so valuable. If you dont have a filmer on the beach, this is a great tool to advance your surfing. Being able to watch yourself is so important." says Conner.

The results of Conner's Surf? See for yourself.
