Beach Cleanups, Good Tunes And Tacos At Doheny

It was all about giving thanks and giving back over the Thanksgiving holiday as volunteers joined Surfrider Foundation and Rip Curl for a classic beach cleanup at Doheny State Beach.
After a fitful Thanksgiving holiday, it was time to get outside and do some good. More than three dozen voluneers joined Rip Curl and the Surfrider Foundation's South Orange County chapter on Saturday, December 3, to help make Doheny State Park an even better place to surf and chill.

In total, over 65 pounds of trash and recyclables were removed from the beach.

"A massive percentage of the total amount collected was styrofoam that had broken down into small pieces along the shoreline," reports Surfrider's Mary Herbranson. "Since styrofoam is virtually weightless, that goes to show there was a lot removed! The marine life and birds at Doheny (and surrounding areas) will be grateful!"

And after a solid morning of giving thanks and giving back, it was time to head up P.C.H. to the Rip Curl Dana Point shop for some amazing tacos and epic tunes courtesy local band Iris and the Shade (if you haven't heard them, we highly recommend checking them out on Spotify).

These cleanups not only provide great direct environmental benefit, but the numbers and data collected also helps to equip and support coastal advocacy work, legislative initiatives, and other campaigns.

Special thanks to Surfrider Southern Orange County, Surfrider's Mary Herbranson, Taquiza Caleb for the kind grinds and Iris and the Shade for laying down the tunes and supplying the vibes.
